Anki is a free, open-source spaced repetition flashcard program. You create decks, schedule reviews with an SRS algorithm, and sync optionally via AnkiWeb. AnkiMobile on iOS is a paid app that funds development; AnkiDroid on Android is free.

Switching from Quizlet

Your data: Export your Quizlet sets if the free export still works for your account, or copy terms manually, then import into Anki as a shared deck or CSV.

  1. Check Quizlet export: Open each set and look for export/print options allowed on your plan; copy text if export is blocked.
  2. Install Anki: Download Anki desktop from apps.ankiweb.net and create a profile.
  3. Import: Use File → Import with a CSV (Front,Back) or import a shared .apkg deck.
  4. Tune the scheduler: Start with default settings; adjust new cards/day so reviews stay manageable.
  5. Optional sync: Create an AnkiWeb account to sync to AnkiDroid or AnkiMobile.

Watch out for:

  • AnkiMobile on iOS is a paid app; Android's AnkiDroid is free.
  • Quizlet Learn/Test modes do not map 1:1 — use Anki's review grades instead.
